This Side Of Paradise

I have been reading This Side Of Paradise, a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald about the intellectual awakening of a young man which stangely mirrors mine. But I wonder maybe it's the same for many for us. While reading the book i realized that i have not "chronicled" my daily life/thoughts in a "poetic" form for a long time. It was something i used to do often and with ease but it seemed as though i had lost my muse along the way. Anyway, thought i shall give it a shot here - An afterthought from reading the book.

To begin, here's a quote from the poem from which the title of the book was derived.

"Well this side of paradise!
There's little comfort in the wise."

-Rupert Brooke

a rhyme to me to take a whiff
oh how then shall i begin this piece
to pose albeit with modern flair
a sigh is found 'tween seasons lost
but a ruse the scent of air

bemoan the heart that has to thread
upon streets sterile without regret.
ah! but look! those wavering lights
that clamour so for winter snow
let this heart stay or let it go.

follow this walk to where winds are lost
where wanton dreams and yearning lie
across the fields this side of paradise.
a fork alas so banal yet the heart must choose
oh! i've tried! to pose albeit with modern flair.

Virgin Shots

Contrary to what the title says, no the guys below ain't virgins. Although that isn't confirmed though. Haha. It's just that this mark the first time ever that i'm posting pictures on the blog. Yeash, whatever ya. Guess i'm suppose to have a brief description or something. Hmmm... Bored, Drunk & "Rounding" on a Friday Night?

My knocked-out V-com(co-driver), KY. He's sober now but shouldn't he be at the back of the car in the first place?!!

Photos are courtesy of Shiming(Guess who? haha). The other guy is our very own Uncle V. And yes, at least they were pretty sober through-out unlike Mr KY.

Top 10 Lists: Fav T.V Series

What better way to fill up this blog then doing Top 10 Lists High
Fidelity style. Ok, so besides having Top Five/Ten Lists there is
actually no other similarities but hey, it's a movie based on
a book by Nick Hornby. Throw in John Cusask and Jack Black plus
a record store, how can I not mention the movie? haha

Top 10 Favourite T.V Series.
Shall only include english ones since
if I were to include Japanese/Chinese ones too, creating a Top 10
List would be quite a headache.

1.The X-Files - There's a song about Mulder & Scully for crying out loud.

2.Friends - Now, who doesn't like to watch Friends ?

3.The Simpsons - Political incorrectness at its animated best.

4.Six Feet Under - We have drama, we have humour, we have death. What else can one ask for from a drama series?

5.Gilmore Girls - Fast-talking chicks with brains. Woot! There is actually a storyline taking place? Oh well...

6.Star Trek: TOS/TNG/ENT - Soap opera in space! Hey, I'm a sci-fi geek at heart. haha

7.Frasier - Witty dialogue, hilarious scenes. It's Dr Frasier Crane from Cheers! Cheers just doesn't do it for me though.

8.Andromeda - Another sci-fi series by Gene Roddenberry. We have Kevin Sorbo aka Hercules in space, plenty of action, a decent storyline and a gorgeous A.I played by Lexa Doig. Im satisfied enuff. haha

9.Stark Raving Mad - Tony Shahoub of Monk fame stars as a writer in this hilarious comedy. He's a writer damn it! Woot!

10.Two Guys, a Gal & a Pizza Place - ermm... isn't this something many people would like to do? Rent an apartment with some close
friends and just live together. Sort of like FRIENDS but cosier.

Special Mentions:

1.Rome - A HBO production that weaves the exploits of historical figues such as Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, with the fictional tales of two roman soldiers to create a drama series that lives up to its title. It's an on-going series, therefore i'm not including it inside the top 10.

2.LOST - Can somebody just me lend the DVDs so that i can watch it?

Yea, you guys would probably realize the absence of any T.V series
from the genres of law & criminal investigation like CSI and
Boston Legal. Well, I just don't like watching them on TV, a movie
definitely, but a T.V series just doesn't quite cut it for me.

Rain Under The Streetlamp

It's almost seven months since i last completed a piece. And
since the first two stanza below had been in limbo for quite
some time already, I thought i might as well finished it up.
And in case you are wondering, no i don't write about stars
all the time. It's just a coincidence.

rain under the streetlamp

adore this night draped
with a mooonless sky.
for my eyes to wander
whither dreams sojourn tonight.

oh my hands,
they've tried to grasp
the stars alluring but alas,
alike dreams, it eschews
so fleeting to the touch.

hark! do you hear?
the sounds of conniving
as night begins to stir.
how quickly the stars yield
such is the detritus of life.

now let rain adorn this velvet skin
and afford me a touch.
dear it may be and alas
there is rain under the streetlamp.

A Dream Of Stars

I feel as though i have an obligation to write about stars no
matter what, so here it goes.

What staring at the stars conjures for me:

"..the dreamy voice of a female lounge singer held in embrace in
a coat of haze that has sojourned over the audience. They listen
enthralled, inebriated with alcohol. Euphoria.."

It's such a joy for me to just stare at the stars, or to watch
the rain as it tumbles from the heavens. But yet I refrain myself
from these indulgences. Why? To put it simply, I hate to lose
myself in euphoria.

A Dream Of Stars (Sept 03)

what of the moon blind to my sleep
stay awhile, wont you please?
and set my dreams a sail
amongst the habour of stars in my wake.
a lark it is; ever faithful
a ship there was; truly missed
dont shed a tear now
i promise i'll wait

what of stars blind to its passing
as twilight skies sings its lullaby
i will find you again
amongst comfortless nights.
decry the moon that entwine the hearts
a forlorn soul needs not but a silent prayer
to sleep a dream
with stars to guide

what then of the mist, forgetting still
the moon and stars it conjures
a sweet languor, with pining yet abhor
a field of lights; left unsaid adore
my dreams asleep; awake
it steals with wantonness
there is no farewell
till we meet again; a dream of stars

A life in peace, it's all i wished

In a desperate attempt to allow my thoughts to be heard, i have finally conformed to the norm of publishing my more mundane thoughts. Which is what lead to the creation of this new blog and for those in the know, the name of this blog is indeed a reference to my original one. How is it different? Honestly, I have no idea myself. Only time will tell i guess.

to await the next summer breeze
a life in peace
it's all i wished
